If your box or bottle has a distinctive look, a design patent protects it, and brands that skip it often discover the copycat was copying the packaging first. ## Why packaging matters Buyers recognize products by the box before they touch the product. A lookalike package on a shelf or listing confuses customers and transfers trust to the copycat. The design patent gives you the right to stop that confusion. ## What to file File the packaging itself: the six views of the box, bottle or label layout that makes it recognizable.
