A China trademark is valid for 10 years from registration. Renewal costs 270 RMB per class, the same as the original filing, and you can renew from 12 months before expiry. Missing the window is the easiest way to lose a brand in China.
When to renew
CNIPA accepts renewal applications from 12 months before the expiry date, with a 6-month grace period after it. File inside the window and the mark continues without a gap. File too late and the registration lapses.
What happens if you miss it
A lapsed mark is removed from the register, and anyone can apply for it. In China, prior use without registration gives you very little protection, so the squatter who files next often wins. This is not a risk worth taking for a 10-year-old brand.
How renewal works
- We check your expiry date before the window opens.
- You sign a power of attorney and confirm the applicant details.
- A licensed agency files the renewal with CNIPA.
- You receive the renewed certificate and a new expiry date.
Renewal is listed on our pricing page at $499 per class, official fee included. If you are not sure when your mark expires, send us your registration number and we will check.
Documents you need
Keep it simple: your registration number, the current applicant name and address, and a signed power of attorney. If the company changed its name since registration, that has to be handled first, so tell us early.
