China trademark search and availability check

Last updated: October 23, 2026

A China trademark search checks CNIPA records for identical and similar marks before you spend money on an application. Send one brand name and the goods you sell, and we will tell you whether it is safe enough to file.

Direct answer

What a China trademark search tells you

The search shows whether an earlier trademark may block your application in the relevant class. It also identifies whether similar Chinese characters, transliterations or English elements create conflict risk. A clean result improves the filing decision, but no search can guarantee registration.

What this China trademark service includes

Clear scope prevents surprise fees and keeps the work focused on the result you need.

  • A review of the relevant class, subclass and your proposed goods list
  • A plain-English note on the strongest conflicts and next steps
  • Three name or logo options included with a full registration plan

Process

How the service works

01

Send the brand and goods

Tell us the name, logo or wording and what you sell. One class is enough for the preliminary check.

02

We check CNIPA records

We compare exact and similar marks, Chinese variants and the relevant goods and services.

03

Decide how to file

If the mark clears the check, we quote registration. If it carries risk, we explain whether to adjust the mark, class or goods list.

What to send

Information we need to assess the case

  • The exact brand name or the logo you want to check
  • The product or service you sell and the markets or platforms involved
  • The likely China class if you already know it
  • Any earlier application, registration or priority filing you hold

FAQ

Trademark search questions, answered

Can I search China trademarks for free?

CNIPA provides a public search tool. ChinaIPMark also offers a free preliminary check for one brand and one class so a foreign applicant can understand the main conflicts without interpreting Chinese records alone.

What counts as a conflicting trademark in China?

CNIPA looks at the similarity of the signs, the similarity of the goods or services, the relevant subclasses and earlier rights. A different logo does not automatically remove a conflict if the dominant wording sounds the same.

Does a clean search guarantee registration?

No. A search reduces avoidable risk, but CNIPA makes the final decision. Absolute grounds, new filings, examination practice and evidence can still affect the outcome.

How many searches are included with registration?

Every China trademark registration plan includes three searches for one name or logo option each. Additional searches after the first three are $15 each.

Should I search Chinese characters and English separately?

They should be assessed together. Chinese consumers may read the English name, its Chinese translation, its transliteration and the logo as one commercial impression. Separate filings may be appropriate if each element needs independent protection.

How quickly can you check a name?

The first preliminary check is normally returned within one business day. A full registration search and goods-list review is prepared with the filing plan.

Need help with trademark search?

Send the brand, registration or CNIPA notice and we will confirm the practical next step in English.
