Clothing brands in China file in class 25, which covers clothing, footwear and headgear. The official fee is 270 RMB per class, and the name itself is where most fashion filings get into trouble, because CNIPA checks names against similar marks, not against the look of the clothes.
Class 25 and the items that matter
Class 25 is the home for apparel, shoes and hats, and your application covers up to 10 goods or services in that class. For a clothing brand, the useful items are usually the products you actually sell: shirts, dresses, jackets, trousers, shoes and headgear. Pick the ten that match your line, because adding items later means a new application.
Why fashion names get refused
Fashion is crowded. If another brand in class 25 has a name that reads or sounds like yours, CNIPA will refuse it regardless of how different the clothes look. This is why the search matters more than the design. We have seen brands fall in love with a name, skip the search, and discover the refusal notice months later. A search before filing is cheaper than a rebrand.
Documents and cost
For a foreign applicant, the documents are a passport or incorporation certificate, your logo, and a signed power of attorney. Our trademark service covers search, filing and translation, with the $39 official fee shown separately and any correction notice handled at no extra cost. If your brand also sells through retail services, ask whether class 35 belongs in the plan; the classes guide explains the trap.
