The CNIPA official fee for a China trademark is 270 RMB (about $39) per class when filed online, covering up to 10 goods or services. That is the entire government fee. What you pay above that depends on the service you choose.
The official fee, exactly
Since the 2019 fee reduction, CNIPA charges 270 RMB per class for electronic filing, which is about $39 at current exchange rates. Paper filing costs 300 RMB. Every item beyond 10 in a class adds 27 RMB (about $4). Renewal of a registered trademark costs 270 RMB per class.
Foreign applicants pay the same official fees as Chinese applicants. The government fee is not where the price differences between agencies come from.
Why quotes range from $119 to $800
All-inclusive quotes differ because the work differs:
- Filing only. The agency submits the application and does little else. If the mark is refused, you pay again for a response.
- Standard service. Pre-filing search, translation, filing, English updates, and one response to an office action. This is what our Standard plan includes at $299 per class.
- Full protection. Everything above plus monitoring, customs recordal guidance, and priority support, such as our Brand Protection plan at $449.
What a transparent quote should show
A trustworthy quote lists the official fee separately. On our invoices you will see $39 for the CNIPA e-filing fee and our service fee as a separate line. If CNIPA changes its fees, the change appears before you pay. No hidden charges, no surprise invoices.
If an agency will not show the official fee line, ask why. The answer is usually not flattering.
Costs after registration
A China trademark is valid for 10 years from registration and can be renewed. Many brands also add monitoring (about $399 per year) so they learn about conflicting filings or squatters before problems escalate. See our pricing page for the full list.
Here is a mistake we see often: a brand files in the wrong class, gets refused, pays again, and starts over. The search that would have caught it costs less than the second official fee.
