A China trademark costs $199 to $499 per class through our service, and the official fee is about $39. Compared with the cost of losing a brand in a first-to-file country, it is one of the cheapest insurance policies a small brand can buy.
The cost side
One class, one application: $39 official fee plus a service fee, and the registration is valid for 10 years. Renewal costs 270 RMB per class. For most small brands, one or two classes cover the actual business.
The risk side
If you do not file and a squatter takes your name, the options are opposition, invalidation, negotiation or buying the mark back. Each route costs multiples of the registration price, and the squatter knows it. We have seen brands pay five figures for a name they could have filed for a few hundred dollars.
When it is not worth it
If you have no plan to sell in China and no products made there, the filing can wait. If either is true, the math changes completely. A quick chat with us about your markets will give you a clear yes or no.
